Effective Web Design Principles to Incorporate Into Your Website

Effective Web Design

According to Steve Jobs in regard to web design “Design is not just what it looks like feels like. The design is how it works. “Functionality and the serviceability, not the visual design, determine the success or failure of a website. Your website visitors are the people who need a piece of information regarding your product or services.

With a click of a mouse the visitor decides, the user-centric design is the necessity for success and profit-oriented web design.

Your site visitors can decide if your website is a profit-oriented web design and user-centric design with just a mouse click

In this article, we are going to concentrate on result-oriented approaches for effective web design though it would lead to more sophisticated decisions, hence, I will try as much as possible to simplify the process for easy comprehension in presenting the information.

Before we delve into the step to take for effective web design, it is important to have an understanding of what your audience (visitors or users) think when they interact with a website.

Just the same way customer interact with a store, website users or visitors also interacts with a website when they visit your web page, it is very similar. Visitors glance at each page, navigate through text and images. They scroll down to any clickable links that catch their interests.

The majority of website visitors are looking for specific information when they visit a web page, it might be they are looking for a particular product or service.

People like Quality: The same way people like quality is also how they like websites with quality content. If you have quality content on your web page, the user will always come back then it is compromised with advertisements and design of the web page. You need to have it in mind that when you mix good design and quality content together, you will continuously drive relevant traffic to your webpage.

Most Users Scan The Webpage: Some users don’t have the time to waste on the website, all they do is scan the webpage for their relevant information which fulfills their needs. This means you have to consider how relevant is your niche or how quality is the information you all be sharing on your web page.

Most web users are impatient: The majority of website visitors do not have the time to read trash! If your webpage content is not meaningful or structured properly or they (visitors) do not get the information they are looking for within the first three seconds. Then the user’s chance of exiting the webpage increases.

Website Visitors Don’t Make The Best Choices: Users who visit Web page have the intention of getting what he/she is looking for and they don’t have the time of going from one web page to another to search for information, in most cases they scan the web page and the link quickly, and if it does not satisfies their requirement, they jump out and find where to get the required information and jump to it.

Web Users according to their Individual Feeling: The majority of web visitors don’t read the content of a web page but they rather scan the web page instead of reading in between the line. According to Arch Steve Krug, website doesn’t care, that is the main reason they scan through. Which is to say “If they find something that works, they will stick to it. It doesn’t matter to webpage visitors if they understand how things work, as long as they can use the information on the webpage. Whatever that will make your target audience think and act like your design is too complex, then stick to designing what makes users think.”

Now, having gone through all the user’s behavior, next we are going to checklist the web designing principles

Don’t Make Users Think too much: According to Krug’s first law of usability, the web page should be self-explanatory, it should contain answers to most of the questions which visitors can get after going through the web page. Designed the website navigation and architecture properly so that the user will find it less difficult to comprehend and how the system works. A well thought and structured design along with clear and concise quality content directs the user towards availing the services or making a purchase. Thus, a well-planned structure reduces the mental load. Once this is achieved, it will be easy for the user to navigate through the website.

Use Minimum Fill-in Forms: In every project which is designed to cater to the specific needs of the user, try to keep users’ requirements minimal. It will encourage first-time visitors if they don’t have to fill in long forms just to try out your service. In a nutshell, remove all barriers that will cause a user to spend more time filling in the registration form.

Divert user’s attention towards your Unique Selling Proposition (USP): A website contains both static and dynamic content, some aspects of the user interface are more attractive than others. Attractive content, images, and videos should be used to attract customers towards your USP (Unique Selling Proposition).

Create Attractive Content-Rich Interface: Modern web designers focus more on the visually appealing interface, and they neglect the architecture of the web page and content. A good mix of design, layout, and the content will drive regular traffic to the webpage.

Make your writing simple and Effective: The content on the web page should be brevity, clear, concise and structured properly. As it helps the user to find the required information easily.

Innovate But Not Distract: An impressive web design uses innovation and creativity. Use white spaces or negative spaces as per the requirement. White space is the area of the page that is empty, mainly used between the images and videos.

Aesthetically Appealing – Target as per the Niche: Every industry or segment caters to specifically targeted customers based on factors like age, geography, and gender. The design of the web page should be explicitly designed to target a selected niche.

Build Online Credibility and Trust: Nowadays everybody is present on social platforms, users and business enterprises both. Use your web page to build trust and credibility on social platforms. A testimonial from the existing clients is a great way to do this.

Optimized Website Page: Web page should be optimized to load faster without compromising on the quality factors.

Responsive Website Design: Due to an increase in handheld devices and data penetration. Mobile devices are the main source of traffic on the website. Web pages should be responsive to load in any device irrespective of the screen size.

Thus, a web page should be designed keeping in mind, the user and business needs. Use these web design principles to get an aesthetically appealing and result-oriented web page.
